Virus Creativus

Ever since I learned knitting (and crocheting) in elementary school, I like(d) doing it - usually, I'd go through phases where I'd do more or less. This past fall, I've started into a phase again - and I'm really enjoying it this time around. I made a pair of socks for my niece first, then decided I wanted to give her a cap for Christmas. Well, the first one I made was too big, the second to small, but all good things come in threes - so the last one fits perfectly! My sister liked it so much, she asked me to make gloves to go along with it - so I did that. And because I wanted to try yet another pattern and because I have so much wool at home, I decided to make another set - this time +shoes and more for a baby until like 6 months (also because my sister would never dress her daughter in pink! *g*). So here's a selection of my stuff...

My first attempt to make a hat for my niece - and my first attempt at cables! Pretty easy once you get the hang of them. It ended up being to small, but I've kept it - you never know when it will come in handy... :)

The "Charm" a.k.a  - A cap that fits! Finally... :-)
Every time my mom looks at it, she can't get over the fact that the cables weave into the other direction... (I'm a leftie, therefore the cables weave exactly the opposte direction from when she would've made them...)

The gloves to go with the cap (they are the same red as the cap, although it looks darker in the picture). The lace is laid behind the baby's neck so she can't loose them even if she slides out of one. Oh, an since they are baby gloves - no thumbs on these.

And here's pink "Girlie-Set" I completed today! I wanted to try different cables on the hat :) Nice, but not as nice as the others. Maybe a different wool would've been better. The shoes were made from "scratch", with my Mom's help (she gave recommendations on how to try it - she can't help me because she's right handed) and I really like how they turned out. I made them in one piece so I don't have to sow them anywhere. The gloves I ended up making because I had some pink wool left... *g*

PS: I've already started on another pair of shoes ;-)

  1. Ahhh, every thing's so cute but I especially love the red and white set. Your sister can dress her up to look like a little Canadian. :)

  2. Oh LOL Bev! It's actually light grey, not white, but one could make a Canadian set easily *hehe*

  4. Wow, those are all so beautiful and a lasting gift. The kind you hand down and keep in the family as heirlooms. Of course I love the pink set. I would never have noticed the direction of the cable unless you pointed it out but makes sense when you know the reason why. My mother used to knit and crochet and would make me hats, gloves, vests and sweaters. One sweater was of the American flag...wish I still had it. Nice post!

  5. Well, thanks Nantz :) You know, the direction of the cables didn't bother me, either, but in a way, even after 25+ years, my mom still can't get over the fact I'm left-handed sometimes... :)
